Differences - Reloaded

Here's MORE to the a long list of things that we have found that are different in NZ:

"How ya going?"
They have lots of depression and alcoholism commercials
Did we mention, only 4 channels unless you have satellite?
Toss = throw away
Bogan = Redneck
Ta = Ok/Thanks
Cheers = Thanks, Great, Goodbye
Dodgy = Sketchy, Shady
Sweet As = Super-sweet!
Converse sneakers are super-cool
Eggs! There are so many ways to use eggs in each and every meal. Just ask a Kiwi.

All types of people have dreadlocks for hair - older women, girls, guys and they're not Rastafarian at all - it's just the fashion.
Employees get paid for sick days and public holidays - and if you work on a public holiday, you get time + 1/2, and there's a surcharge for eating in a restaurant on a public holiday (10%) to make up for it!
Clothing costs much more here than in the states. Good thing Holly's endowed with a + 12 bargain-huntin' prowess!
People don't "go-out" until very late here. The party doesn't even really start until 1 or 2 am, and guest artists don't make their debut until even later!
Apparently, even though a bus map indicates that the bus will turn around and go the other way at the end of its run, you still have to vacate and find another bus if you get on going the wrong direction...
Fighting in the streets - it happens a lot, and you may go home with a bloody nose and a black eye, but no one is ever shot in NZ.
The big controversies throughout the country now are whether 1) a ban on spanking and restraining your child, and 2) cops carrying tazers, ok or not ok? can go into effect
Movie theatres! The seats are ginormous! And you can purchase alcohol and drink it right in the theatre. Did I mention that the aisles are so wide, that you can't put your feet on the seat in front of you even if you wanted?? Wonderful.

Light switches are backwards, up is off and down is on.
When ordering at restaurants you order first then get a number and take that to whatever table you want.
No one wears oversized/baggy clothes
"for take away" rather than "to go"
People go barefoot A LOT, in grocery stores, in the city, everywhere
So many people of Asian decent, but virtually none of African decent
Beer always comes in half-pints and pints (think Fellowship of the Ring when Pippen comes back to the table with a full pint.
Rugby
There are some American places (McD's, BK, KFC, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Gloria Jean's coffee bean)
Carveries: a place to go eat sliced meat
In the malls the food courts are filled with sushi places, Indian food, kebabs, and cafes
Surprisingly good radio music (we have heard blackalicious, postal service, and lots of scissor sisters)
Few people have clothes dryers, just washing machines.
Smaller cars
The loud car stereo people play techno, not rap
Skinny jeans are starting to come "in" with Americans, but here it is at a whole 'nother level..nearly obscene
