American Cravings

Well we've been in New Zealand for just about 6 months and I have started to notice some pretty severe cravings. I thought a list of them would make a good blog entry...

1. Taco Bell - Sometimes you just need some tacos.
2. Pretzels - I don't know why they don't have pretzels here. It isn't exactly an American food.
3. Large Sodas - A large soda here is a medium in the states.
4. Driving - I miss driving a car, but especially driving my Jeep.
5. Wendy's - Mmmm, spicy chicken sandwich
6. Cable TV - I was glad to be rid of it for a while, but I really miss Discovery Channel, History Channel, and of course Comedy Central (Holly misses Animal Planet)


Kelly and Micah sent us a wonderful 'thank you' package, a Target Care Package, filled with wonderful luxuries that would cost three times as much in New Zealand. A few suction-cup shelves for in the shower, an A,B,C a/v switch for the TV and some awesome US candy (smarties and sour patch kids). We have really taken things like Target for granted. While, on one hand, it is nice to be away from the mass-market commercial culture of the United States, it is still a bit of a withdrawal process getting away from all the inexpensive luxuries.

We have both been sick three times in the last two months! I think having two winters in a row is putting a strain on us. We are getting over the latest round right now. Holly had two modeling jobs last week. One was a vintage clothing shoot for the local newspaper and the other was a television commercial for a large insurance firm. I am so proud of her!

Andy is still working as a security guard at the moment. The applications for the next round of scholarships at the University of Canterbury have been submitted. I should find out in mid-November.
