Our weekend began on Friday, when we ventured to Sumner Beach, reachable by the bus. It was a 25 min ride out to the coast, and we listened to a mother read a story to her 2 children along the way...twice.
Sumner was bright and windy. The surround was a beautiful sight. Quaint village atmosphere with quaint cafes lining their miniture boardwalk. We drank tea. In the photos, you'll see the rock beach and the sandy beach, and Andy atop a geographical wonder, the cave rock. (It has a survey marker on top for all you NOAA bloggers!) Take note of the mountain range in the distant background, eh.
Then on Saturday we awoke to an even warmer more lovely day. We met some fun blokes from Queenstown, and sat in the shade of the trees in their beergarden. It was a great morning, listening to the band, watching Andy dance with a strange woman, and be sure to check out the video of the girls dancing under "Happy Holidays"
Our evening was spoken for, however, as we had tickets to a local production at the Arts Centre. "The Shape of Things" was a true pleasure. The acting was relaxed and intimate in a small theatre, good gobos, with minimalistic props (Dan would really appreciate its versatility) and intense dialogue. We are still talking about what a great evening it was. And it was just a block away! Ha!

The Irish dancers are great aren't they. Later in the year there will be a big dance competition at city hall. (Makes you wonder where The Beach Shag started) CHCH may be more Irish than Ireland. Gets some locals to tell you how and why there grandparent's came over, everyone has a tale. Next stop Godley Head? After that maybe a walk over to Lyttelton (I think the bus goes there). There use to be a good Bistro a block back form the harbor. Can you tell how envious we are! Your location is great. We loved the Art Center. The movies there are different from what we see in the states...Pat enjoyed many "chick flicks" at the afternoon showings while I was workings.
looks awesome!!!
have you received anything from us yet?
how is the nightlife there?
love.
We got your package a few days ago Micah!! It was so wonderful...we had watched all of the movies we brought twice already. It was awesome to get a package of entertainment. Thanks!
Holly I am so glad you are able to get Andy to experience some live theatre. Lord knows I tried. It really looks like you are having a wonderful time. And you know me any day at the beach is a great day. What is the temp like over there? It looks fab. Caitlin loves the pics and wonders where all the waves are???? I keep checking the surf cam over there and trying to catch some live footage but I guess you guys are being responsible. (Shucks) How goes the job search? Any prospects? Is this easier than E-mail or do you still use your account?
Dang it Daniel, I like live theatre!
The temps have been quite nice for late summer. Around 70F average. Some days it gets windy and cool in the shade, the folks here say it's the coldest summer in 60 years. The surfers we saw were wearing full suits...one had on a helmet, but I think it was a surfing lesson. The waves were not so bad, better than VAB a chest high set every 10 minutes or so, but they were getting 45 second rides all down the edge of a small bay.
The job hunt is actually going quite well. Holly has had two interview in the past two days and she is excited about both of them. One is a receptionist for a really nice hair salon and the other is a receptionist for a interior design firm. Both would suit her quite well and probably pay pretty well.
We both still use email for personal stuff, lengthy stuff, or stuff with attachments. Feel free to do both.
